742 FXUS65 KBOI 062127 AFDBOI Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Boise ID 227 PM MST Tue Nov 6 2018 .SHORT TERM...Tonight through Friday...Scattered rain and snow showers will continue across mainly the West Central and Boise Mountains through Wednesday. Snow accumulation will be light with around an inch of snow expected above 5000 feet through Wednesday. Patchy fog and stratus could develop in the mountain valleys of Baker County and the West Central mountains tonight. Skies clear for much of the region tonight with temperatures falling below freezing. Another shortwave trough moves southeast across Western Montana on Wednesday continuing the threat for snow showers in the West Central Mountains of Idaho. This will also bring breezy northwesterly winds to parts of Southeast Oregon and Southwest Idaho. Drier conditions expected for Thursday and Friday as the upper level ridge expands inland. This should bring warmer temperatures aloft although possible setting up a weak valley inversion. Temperatures will remain below normal through Friday. .LONG TERM...Friday night through Tuesday...Dry surface cold front and a short wave trough aloft will come in from the northwest Friday night, but mixing winds will keep temperatures mild through Saturday. Sunday will be colder as surface winds calm down. Drier air under northerly flow aloft will also help to lower temperatures, and new snow on the ground in northern areas will lower temps even further, resulting in patchy fog. Cold air will continue in the valleys through Tuesday, but mountains will begin to warm Monday as an upper ridge comes in from the Pacific. && .AVIATION...North and east of KBKE-KSNT...areas of MVFR and local mountain obscuration continuing in scattered snow showers. After 07/06Z local IFR in valleys due to fog. South and west of KBKE-KSNT VFR with scattered-broken clouds at or above 9kft MSL until 07/02Z, then mostly clear.
