Further north and east, temperatures remained a bit cooler, with highs predominantly in the upper 70s to low 80s. Conditions early this evening were relatively unchanged, with temperatures ranging from the upper 70s in the northeast to the mid and upper 80s to the far southwest under mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will quickly march northward to end the week, topping out friday in the mid to upper 90s in many spots. Dew points in the upper 60s to low 70s will push heat index values over 105 in many spots, and over 100 across the state. Fortunately, the heat will not last as cooler temperatures return by Sunday on the heels of a cold front moving thorough Saturday. Highs Sunday and to begin the Fourth of July holiday week will predominantly reside in the low to mid 80s. A few opportunities for showers and storms will move through the region over the coming days. First up is a chance for far southwest and southern Iowa this evening and overnight. After a break Thursday and Friday, another round of storms will slide through Saturday and into early Sunday, with the opportunity for some severe weather. $$ CURTIS
