Otherwise, skies were partly sunny north to sunny south this morning. Early morning lows were in the lower and middle 60s, warming into the upper 60s northwest to lower 80s southeast. The winds generally north around 10 mph. Scattered cloud cover is expected over parts of the upper midwest due to weak high pressure over the area. This afternoon temperatures will warm to the lower 80s north to the upper 80s in the far south. Late tonight and early Thursday a warm front will lift north across the region. The front will bring a slight chance for thunderstorms over the south through mid morning with clouds over the north. Later in the day the temperatures will be on the upswing with highs in the mid 80s north to the lower 90s southwest. Friday will be hot and humid over most of the state as strong southwest winds bring mid to upper 90s to portions of Iowa by afternoon. Many areas will see triple digit heat indices by afternoon with breezy southwest winds. The heat is likely to linger into Saturday over the central and south with lows Friday night in the mid to upper 70s and highs Saturday in the lower 90s southeast. The north will see increasing chances for thunderstorms and slightly cooler temperatures with highs in the lower 80s. Thunderstorms will be likely Saturday night into early Sunday morning over most of Iowa. There will be the potential for strong storms and locally heavy rainfall as a strong cold front sweeps through the state. Sunday will be cooler but still humid as highs fall back into the lower to mid 80s. Dry weather is forecast for Sunday into Monday with highs again in the 80s on Monday after lows in the 60s. $$
