950 FXUS63 KFSD 102323 AFDFSD Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD 523 PM CST Sat Feb 10 2018 .SHORT TERM...(This evening through Sunday) Issued at 300 PM CST Sat Feb 10 2018 Quiet weather ahead to finish the weekend. Abundant sunshine today has not really helped warm the surface air mass under a strong arctic high pressure with temperatures inly in the single digits. A weak system will move through Nebraska this evening and could bring some flurries or patchy light snow to the Sioux City area, but not expecting accumulations. Otherwise fairly clear with high pressure shifting south. This should keep some wind through the night, especially north of Interstate 90. Regardless, it will be cold with lows of 5 to 10 below. With the wind we will touch 20 below on the wind chill but not going to issue an advisory. While Sunday will not be as cold as today, highs will still be about 10 degrees below normal, ranging from the teens in northwest IA to the mid 20s in south central SD. .LONG TERM...(Sunday night through Saturday) Issued at 300 PM CST Sat Feb 10 2018 Sunday night into Monday will see a reinforcing shot of Arctic air as a northwest flow upper level wave drops southeast. Lows will be back below zero again with highs of about 10 to 15 degrees. By Monday night into Tuesday warm advection is expected to develop ahead of some warmer air aloft. This may bring some light snow to the area but timing challenges and marginal confidence will still keep lower chances in place. Upper level flow will turn west northwest Wednesday through Saturday which will keep temperatures a little warmer, but still mainly below normal. The exception will be on Wednesday where above normal temperatures will be possible as warm air aloft spreads through. One caveat to this will be the potentials for fog as the inversion strengthens which would limit temperatures a bit. Otherwise highs Thursday through Saturday in the 20s with lows about 5 to 15. && .AVIATION...(For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Sunday evening) Issued at 520 PM CST Sat Feb 10 2018 VFR conditions through the TAF period. && .FSD WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
