Accumulations of around an inch had occurred in northwest Iowa with light amounts to the east. The snow was accompanied by a cold front which had pushed into the northwest third of the state early this morning. Much colder air was on the backside of the front with temperatures falling into the teens. Meanwhile, readings held in the mid to upper 20s elsewhere with south to southwest winds. The cold front in northern Iowa will sweep southeast through much of the region today. This will allow much colder air to overspread the Midwest by this afternoon as Canadian high pressure builds into the northern Plains. Meanwhile, a weak system will push from the Plains into the lower Missouri River valley by this evening. Light snow and flurries are expected near the track of this system including far southwest Iowa. However, any snow amounts will be very light with this system as moisture is expected to remain limited. The cold air will remain for the beginning of the work week on Monday with warming temperatures into Tuesday ahead of the next system. $$
