643 FXUS63 KFSD 190347 AFDFSD Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD 1047 PM CDT Wed Oct 18 2017 .SHORT TERM...(This evening through Thursday) Issued at 247 PM CDT Wed Oct 18 2017 The cool high pressure that brought the marginally breezy conditions to the area will shift into northwest IA late tonight. This will allow for light winds most of the night there with an increasing south wind in central SD. This will help keep lows milder, in the lower to mid 40s, in south central SD with mid 30s possible in northwest IA. The southerly flow will spread across the area on Thursday with another warm day, albeit a little breezier. Northwest IA will be the last to see the stronger winds while central SD will average about 15 to 25 mph from late morning on. Highs will be in the 70s. .LONG TERM...(Thursday night through Wednesday) Issued at 247 PM CDT Wed Oct 18 2017 Thursday night through Friday night will see the strongest winds with some potential for a wind advisory on Friday. With the strong winds at night lows will be in the 50s both Friday morning and Saturday morning, with highs in the 70s on Friday. Gusts on Friday will be about 35 to 40 mph and likely 20 to 25 mph both Thursday night and Friday night. Upper level troughing will swing a cold front through late Friday night into Saturday morning. With broad warm advection ahead of this cool front and marginal instability, rain with isolated to scattered thunderstorms will be possible. Sunday into Monday a west northwest flow aloft will support continued mild temperatures, but more than likely highs will be in the 60s. Tuesday into Wednesday both the GFS and ECMWF strengthen the northwest flow aloft and start digging colder air into the region. This should bring afternoon temperatures back into the 50s along with a couple of breezy days. Precipitation chances are not great but with cold air aloft and northwest flow aloft maybe some afternoon instability showers. && .AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Thursday night) Issued at 1026 PM CDT Wed Oct 18 2017 VFR conditions through the TAF period.
