889 FXUS64 KHGX 121007 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 507 AM CDT Thu Oct 12 2017 .DISCUSSION... Despite the cool start this morning, we will be looking for much warmer temperatures this afternoon as light onshore winds return and the upper ridge of high pressure builds in from the E/NE. As the ridge strengthens/lingers over the region, daytime high tem- peratures will be climbing back up to near 90 the next couple of days for much of the CWFA. Rain chances will also remain limited as the bulk of the deeper moisture over the coastal waters moves inland around to just south of Matagorda Bay for Fri and Sat. The ridge is forecast to weaken late Sat with the passage of the next longwave trough across the Central Plains. This system will then help to drag the next cold front through the state and then off the coast during the day Sun. Of note...previous runs were a bit slower (with FROPA late Sun night). However, will still keep POPS on the low side with FROPA, with guidance also suggesting a round of post-frontal rains as well. The building upper ridge to the west and progs of a deep/persistent NW flow should help keep a much cooler/drier airmass over SE TX for much of next week. 41 && .MARINE... Relatively light winds on tap through the weekend. 5 to 13 knots should cover the wind range over the area...northerly this morning becoming easterly by late afternoon and evening. Moisture increases tonight through Saturday with flow remaining easterly into Sunday. A cold front should move through SETX Sunday afternoon and evening with winds bridging or becoming northeasterly before the front passes. Showers and thunderstorms may accompany the front. SCEC conditions in the wake of the front are likely Sunday night/Monday. Tides remain elevated at 0.5-1.0 foot above normal and this will increase with the persistent easterly flow developing. Stronger rip currents and minor Gulf beach flooding may be possible late Saturday and Sunday. 45 && .AVIATION... VFR. Light northerly flow becoming northeast and east throughout the day. Calm to L/V winds overnight. 45 && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
