898 FXUS66 KOTX 091825 AFDOTX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Spokane WA 1125 AM PDT Mon Oct 9 2017 .SYNOPSIS... Drier weather will linger over the area into Tuesday as a ridge of high pressure remains in place. The drying will come to an end by Tuesday night and Wednesday as another disturbance drops into the region from the northwest. This system will bring cooler temperatures and a chance of precipitation through the end of the week. && .DISCUSSION... Today will be dry and mild. Bands of high clouds will move across the Inland Northwest this afternoon and evening. The morning models continue to forecast the arrival of a cold front Tuesday evening. Our low level air mass ahead of the cold front is very dry. Chances for precipitation are not expected until the front crosses the Cascades Tuesday night into Wednesday. The morning model runs continue to suggest a pronounced rain shadow for the East Slopes of the Cascades and the Columbia Basin Tuesday night into Wednesday with better chances for rain and mountain snow over the mountains of the Idaho Panhandle, the Blues of southeast Washington, and the high terrain of northeast Washington around Metaline Falls and Northport. We may see some better chances for showers for the lowlands of central and eastern Washington Thu night into Fri. The medium range models suggest the potential for a shortwave strong enough to overcome the rain shadow late in the work week. /GKoch && .AVIATION... 18Z TAFS: Bands of high clouds between 20 to 25 thousand feet will move across the skies of the Inland Northwest today.
