Showers and thunderstorms moved across the southern half of the state
this morning producing areas of heavy rain for some areas. The
heaviest rains appeared to be from western into central Iowa,
producing amounts between three quarters of an inch to around an inch.
The heaviest reported rainfall was in Guthrie Center with 1.51 inches.
Outside of the rain, skies were mostly cloudy east to mostly sunny
west. Early morning lows were in the 60s, warming into the 70s. South
to southeast winds were 5 to 10 mph.

Low pressure was centered over northeast Nebraska this morning with a
warm front extending into Iowa, Missouri and Illinois. A cold front
was setting up over the upper midwest from Minnesota into western
Nebraska. Chances for showers storms will continue into Monday, with 
widespread welcome precipitation possible late Monday and Monday 
night. Unfortunately, this also means the potential is there for 
extensive cloud cover during the solar eclipse.

A strong front will move through early Tuesday and bring drier air 
into the region. No precipitation is expected through the middle and 
latter half of the week as highs return to the 70s to near 80 degrees.
