135 FXUS65 KVEF 112231 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 231 PM PST Sat Mar 11 2017 .SYNOPSIS...Warm and dry conditions will continue through next week with periods of high clouds and locally breezy conditions as a few weak impulses pass through the region. && .DISCUSSION...Ridging overhead has sent temperatures to 10-15F above normal today. A band of thicker cirrus over the southern Great Basin, which was well depicted in the 12Z GFS 300 mb moisture fields, will sink south through the evening and clear most of the region by morning. Ridging will remain the predominant feature through the upcoming week, with periods of high clouds and slightly lower heights every few days as shortwave troughs try to penetrate the ridge but instead end up riding around its northern periphery. Temperatures will remain well above normal with dry conditions and not much wind to speak of, especially for spring. && .AVIATION...For McCarran...VFR conditions expected for the period. Winds should follow a typical diurnal pattern with south to southwest winds overnight and light northeast winds Sunday with speeds of 8 knots or less more than 90 percent of the time. For the rest of southern Nevada...northwest Arizona...and southeast California...Breezy north winds will continue in the Colorado River Valley at least through Monday, with gusts up to 30 knots possible around Laughlin Bullhead City.
