FLOOD STATEMENT

For the Lower Humboldt, including Battle Mountain, Comus, Winnemucca, 
moderate flooding is occurring and is expected to continue. For Winnemucca,
flooding will increase through Thursday. The river at the Melarkey Street
Bridge is expected to crest Thursday near moderate level and then begin a 
very slow drop. 

More rain this week and additional snow melt will make the flood forecast for
the lower Humboldt River tricky. Expect variations from this forecast and
be prepared for slightly higher stages and crests, and for them to possibly
occur more quickly. The more flow in the river, the faster the wave moves.

* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to a stage of 9.7 feet 
  by early tomorrow.
* Impact...at 10.0 feet...Minor to moderate lowland flooding 
  throughout reach. Some rural roads near the river are flooded. 
  About 3000 cfs, a 4 year flood, 25 percent chance any year.

* Flood stage is 9.5 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to rise to a stage of 11.3 feet 
  by early tomorrow.
* Impact...at 11.0 feet...Moderate to major lowland flooding 
  throughout reach. Many rural roads near river flooded. Minor to 
  moderate flooding in lower portions of winnemucca. Main area 
  impacted is between uprr and Golconda street on west and second 
  street on the east, beneath i80. 3800 cfs, about a 14 year flood, 7
  percent chance any year. Similar to floods of june 1921 and April 
  1969.
