Low level cloud cover moved in behind the front as winds switched around to out of the northwest. As of late Sunday morning this cloud cover had already begun to erode, gradually given way to partly to mostly sunny skies. High temperatures today will take a step back from the warm conditions on Saturday, topping out in the mid 20s across northern Iowa, to near 40 degrees in the south. Southerly winds will bring warmer air back into the state on Monday in advance of the next low pressure system to sweep across the Plains. Chance for light rain and snow Monday night and into Tuesday before a strong cold front sweeps through. Gusty northwest winds and much cooler air will spill south behind the front, which will keep temperatures below normal for Wednesday and Thursday. The cold snap will not last long as much warmer weather is expected by the end of the week. $$
