067 AWCA82 TJSJ 292143 RWSPR Weather Summary for Puerto Rico National Weather Service San Juan PR 543 PM AST FRI JUL 29 2016 An upper level low passed to the north of Puerto Rico this morning bringing partly cloudy skies and scattered showers...mainly to the west and central portions of the island north of the Cordillera Central. The best rainfall amounts were in the northwest corner of Puerto Rico followed by a stretch along the Cordillera Central in Ponce and a streamer from El Yunque that passed over Dorado. High temperatures reached the low to mid 90s in the lower elevations and it was even 91 degrees at the Luis Munoz Marin airport this afternoon. Temperatures likely reached the upper 70s in the coolest higher elevations. Winds on the north coast were easterly 15 to 20 mph with gusts as high as 28 mph. Winds elsewhere were dominated by sea breezes and were generally 10 to 15 mph. The atmosphere will slowly dry through Saturday afternoon as a significant tropical wave advances toward the area from about 1200 miles east southeast of the area. Nevertheless, some thunderstorms are again expected to form in western and southwestern Puerto Rico during the afternoon with some heavy rainfall in localized areas possible. The wave will begin to spread moisture and increasing winds over the area Saturday night with the mostly intense winds, rainfall and thunderstorms becoming likely during the day on Sunday. Although it is still too early to determine how much rain will fall in any given area during the wave passage, a preliminary estimate is that at a minimum some local urban and small stream flooding is expected-- mainly in eastern Puerto Rico and winds could easily gust to over 30 mph. Some showers may continue overnight Sunday and into Monday. Another round of warm temperatures are expected on Saturday, but for most areas of Puerto Rico temperatures will be moderated by rain on Sunday. Lows tonight will range from the mid 60s in the higher mountain valleys to around 80 on the windward coasts. Across the regional waters tonight...seas up to 6 feet and east winds up to 20 knots are expected. There is a moderate risk of rip currents along most of Puerto Rico's coasts. Winds and seas will increase over the weekend and small craft advisories will go into effect for some Atlantic and outer Caribbean waters Saturday afternoon and night. $$ This product is issued around 5 AM and 5 PM each day and weather conditions may change between issuances.
