Isolated to scattered showers affected Vieques, Culebra, Eastern sections of Puerto Rico as well as the surrounding coastal waters overnight. This activity was associated with small areas of moisture embedded in the trades and enhanced by an upper level trough across the region. Winds were mostly from the East at around 10 mph with some higher gusts near showers. For the rest of the morning hours, isolated to scattered passing showers will continue to affect the local waters, Vieques, Culebra and the Eastern sections of Puerto Rico. For this afternoon the instability of the upper level trough will combine with the available moisture, daytime heating and local effects to produce a new round of showers and thunderstorms across western and interior Puerto Rico. Drier air is expected to move across the region Saturday morning and afternoon, before a strong tropical moves over the region Saturday night and Sunday. This wave will bring a general increase in cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms to the local islands. Winds and waves also expected to increase on Sunday into Monday. Across the regional waters...seas up to 5 feet and east winds up to 15 knots are expected today. There is a moderate risk of rip currents mainly across northern Puerto Rico.
