321 FXUS64 KSJT 201657 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service SAN ANGELO TX 1157 AM CDT MON JUN 20 2016 .UPDATE... Isolated showers have already developed along the I-10 corridor and the Cu field continues to build across the southern half of the CWA. Isolated convection was expanded north to cover roughly the southern half of the CWA this afternoon. This activity will be of the hit-or-miss variety and most of the area should remain dry. Other minor changes were made to the sky and dewpoint grids, but the remainder of the forecast looks good. Johnson && .AVIATION... /18Z TAFS/ VFR conditions will prevail through the TAF period over most of West Central TX. A diurnal Cu field will continue to expand across the area this afternoon, with isolated showers (and a few thunderstorms) along and south of a San Angelo to Brownwood line. Expect cloud cover to dissipate this evening, but low stratus is forecast to make a run at the southwest portion of the CWA again late tonight. No ceilings were included at this time, but this will bear watching. && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 611 AM CDT MON JUN 20 2016/ AVIATION... /12Z TAFS/ Expect mainly VFR conditions at the terminals for the next 24 hours. The winds will generally be from the south to southeast at around 10 knots this afternoon. PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 412 AM CDT MON JUN 20 2016/ SHORT TERM... (Today and Tonight) Going with a mainly dry forecast for the next 24 hours. Will keep the slight chance Pops across far southern areas this afternoon. Highs today will be in the lower 90s, with overnight lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s. LONG TERM... (Tuesday through Sunday) Typical summertime weather expected this week as the subtropical ridge continues to dominate our weather through the extended period. The medium range models do show a mid level wave over the Bay of Campeche by the end of the week, with this wave drifting northwest along the Rio Grande to just south of the Texas Big Bend by next Monday. This weakness in the ridge may result in isolated showers or thunderstorms across far southern counties late next weekend per latest GFS/ECMWF. Still considerable uncertainty regarding the strength and track of this wave but given the model consistencies, will include slight POPs across far southern counties late next weekend. Temperatures through Friday will be slightly above normal for this time of year, with highs in the mid and upper 90s through Friday. Slightly cooler temperatures are expected next weekend, with highs generally in the lower to middle 90s. Overnight lows will be in the low to mid 70s through the period. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
