648 FXUS63 KEAX 132312 AFDEAX AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE KANSAS CITY/PLEASANT HILL MO 512 PM CST Sun Jan 13 2013 ...UPDATED AVIATION DISCUSSION... .DISCUSSION... Short Term (Tonight through Tuesday Night)... Returning back to the sun and cold after yesterday's brief snowfall. Interesting to see the sharp delineation of snow cover on vissat. Placement of this snow pack will be key to temperatures through Tues. Jet streak exceeding 150 knots will remain anchored just to our east over the next several days, maintaining a deep positive tilt trough northwest of the forecast area. Rather chilly airmass will be maintained beneath the upper trough, and dry conditions will persist with strong low level ridging. I couldn't argue with the NAM's temp adjustment over the snow field, yielding readings 3-4 degrees cooler than surrounding areas. Bookbinder Medium Range (Wednesday-Saturday)... Quiet weather expected through the medium range portions of the forecast. By Wednesday, the upper low centered over Hudson Bay will begin to eject eastward, allowing mid-level flow to turn westerly across much of the central CONUS. A broad warming trend will then commence through the end of the week 925:850 mb temperatures rebounding back above 0C. Boundary layer winds will finally turn back southwest by Thursday and continue from the southwest through Saturday. The corresponding temperatures should climb back above normal and into the 40s if not 50s in some locations by Friday and Saturday. Dux && .AVIATION... For the 00Z TAFs, VFR conditions are expected through the next 24 hours. Surface high pressure will move over the region resulting in light and at times variable winds. A deep layer of dry air will ensure clear to mostly clear skies. CDB && .EAX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... MO...NONE. KS...NONE. && $$ WFO EAX
