ALL WINTER WEATHER WARNINGS AND ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN CANCELLED. ENOUGH WARM AIR WAS PULLED UP AHEAD OF THE STORM SYSTEM TO PROVIDE MOST OF THE LOWLANDS WITH JUST WET CONDITIONS...WHILE IN THE MOUNTAINS A MIXED BAG HAS RESULTED IN SOME SLIPPERY CONDITIONS AND LITTLE SNOW ACCUMULATIONS. AT 5 AM MOST OF THE ORGANIZED PRECIPITATION HAS EXITED THE REGION...BUT LINGERING SNOW AND RAIN SHOWERS IN THE MOUNTAINS AND SOME FLURRIES ELSEWHERE CONTINUE. TEMPERATURES IN MOST AREAS HAVE FALLEN BELOW FREEZING BY 5 AM WITH VERY BRISK WESTERLY WINDS. THESE CONDITIONS WILL HELP DRY OUT THE ROADS QUICKLY...BUT MOTORISTS ARE URGED TO EXERCISE CAUTION EARLY THIS MORNING FOR LINGERING ICY SPOTS. TEMPERATURES AT 5 AM RANGED FROM THE 20S OVER WESTERN PORTIONS TO THE 30S IN SOME EASTERN PARTS. THE EARLY MORNING SURFACE WEATHER MAP SHOWED A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CENTERED OVER WESTERN NEW YORK STATE WITH A COLD FRONT EXTENDING SOUTHWARD JUST EAST OF THE APPALACHIANS. LARGE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEMS DOMINATING THE CENTRAL AND WESTERN PART OF THE NATION WERE CENTERED OVER THE SOUTHERN PLAINS AND OVER THE NORTHERN ROCKIES. HIGH PRESSURE WILL SLOWLY BUILD INTO THE REGION FRIDAY AFTERNOON. LINGERING FLURRIES IN THE LOWLANDS AND SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS IN THE MOUNTAINS WILL END THIS AFTERNOON...WITH INCREASING SUNSHINE DURING THE DAY. HOWEVER...TEMPERATURES WILL FALL BELOW FREEZING EVERYWHERE EARLY THIS MORNING...AND REMAIN BELOW FREEZING FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. THE SKY WILL CLEAR TONIGHT...WITH DIMINISHING WINDS AND VERY COLD TEMPERATURES. THIS AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN IN CONTROL OF THE REGION THROUGH SATURDAY...WITH DRY AND COLD CONDITIONS EXPECTED. A NEW COLD FRONT WILL ROLL THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SUNDAY...SETTING UP A COLD UNSTABLE PATTERN SUNDAY AND MONDAY...WITH BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS. OF COURSE...THE MAIN SNOW SHOWER ACTIVITY WILL BE IN THE MOUNTAINS OF WEST VIRGINIA WHERE THERE WILL LIKELY BE MINOR ACCUMULATIONS. $$
