TOWNSEND...WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS 435 AM MDT MON JUN 20 2005 ...ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING OVER PORTIONS OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST MONTANA... THE ATMOSPHERE WILL BECOME INCREASINGLY UNSTABLE TODAY ALONG AND NORTH OF A WEAK SURFACE FRONTAL BOUNDARY. AS OF EARLY THIS MORNING...THE FRONT EXTENDED ALONG A HELENA TO NEIHART TO LEWISTOWN LINE. THE FRONT IS EXPECTED TO MOVE LITTLE THROUGHOUT THE DAY. A WARM LAYER OF AIR IN THE MIDDLE LEVELS OF THE ATMOSPHERE WILL INHIBIT THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT THROUGH THE EARLY AFTERNOON HOURS. BY LATE THIS AFTERNOON...A WEAK DISTURBANCE APPROACHING FROM THE SOUTHWEST COMBINED WITH TEMPERATURES CLIMBING INTO THE 80S WILL ALLOW FOR ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT. THUNDERSTORMS WILL INITIALLY DEVELOP OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF CENTRAL MONTANA NEAR OR JUST NORTH OF THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY. THE STORMS ARE THEN EXPECTED TO MOVE EAST INTO AN INCREASINGLY UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE. ANY STORMS THAT DO DEVELOP WITH HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME SEVERE...WITH THE MAIN THREATS BEING LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WINDS. THE STORMS WILL THEN SHIFT INTO EASTERN MONTANA BY LATER THIS EVENING. ANYONE WHO HAS OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES PLANNED OVER NORTH CENTRAL OR SOUTHWEST MONTANA THROUGH THIS EVENING SHOULD STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR LOCAL MEDIA FOR FURTHER UPDATES. $$ SCHAUMANN
