000 FXUS63 KOAX 110754 AFDOAX AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OMAHA/VALLEY NE 155 AM CST SAT DEC 11 2004 .DISCUSSION... MAIN CONCERNS IN THE SHORT TERM ARE CLOUD COVER AND MAXIMUM TEMPS FOR TODAY. WATER VAPOR SATELLITE IMAGERY LOOP SHOWED A LARGE MID TROPOSPHERIC RIDGE OVER THE WESTERN THIRD OF THE NATION...A FAIRLY DEEP TROUGH OVER THE EASTERN U.S. AND A CLOSED LOW OVER THE GREAT LAKES. A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE AT THE SURFACE STRETCHED FROM WESTERN KANSAS ACROSS NEBRASKA AND INTO WESTERN MINNESOTA. CURRENT LOW CLOUDINESS SHOULD CONTINUE TO DECREASE FROM WEST TO EAST...AS SURFACE RIDGE MOVES EASTWARD. WARM FRONT EXTENDED FROM EASTERN MONTANA INTO WESTERN NEBRASKA EARLY THIS MORNING...AND WILL MOVE EASTWARD/NORTHEASTWARD TODAY. ISENTROPIC FORECAST CHARTS INDICATE BEST BET FOR ANY PRECIPITATION TODAY IS OVER MINNESOTA...WHERE LIFT WILL BE ABLE TO CAUSE SATURATION IN THE LOWER AND MID LEVELS. IN OUR LOCAL AREA...TEMPERATURES TODAY WILL BE WARMER THAN YESTERDAY. EXPECT HIGHS TO REACH AROUND 50 OR A LITTLE MORE ALONG AND WEST OF A LINE FROM NORFOLK TO LINCOLN...BUT ONLY MID AND UPPER 40S EAST OF THAT LINE. STILL NOT BAD...CONSIDERING THAT OUR NORMAL HIGHS FOR MID DECEMBER ARE IN THE MID 30S. AS A SURFACE LOW MOVE EASTWARD ACROSS SOUTHERN CANADA LATE TODAY AND TONIGHT...A COLD FRONT WILL DROP SOUTHWARD ACROSS THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL PLAINS. STRONG/GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS BEHIND THE FRONT WILL BRING COOLER AIR BACK INTO THE AREA. MIGHT NEED TO ISSUE A WIND ADVISORY FOR SUNDAY...BUT NO HIGHLIGHTS FOR NOW. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE MUCH IN THE WAY OF LOW LEVEL MOISTURE WITH THE FRONT...SO WILL NOT MENTION ANY PRECIPITATION WITH FRONTAL PASSAGE. NO SIGNIFICANT PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED WITH THE BALANCE OF THE 7 DAY FORECAST. COLD AIR WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE IN THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS SOUTHEAST FROM MONTANA. HIGHS MONDAY SHOULD ONLY BE IN THE 30S. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO MODERATE A LITTLE ON TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY AS THE HIGH MOVES OFF TO THE SOUTHEAST... AND WINDS SHIFT TO THE SOUTH OR SOUTHWEST. IT APPEARS THAT ANOTHER FRONT WILL PUSH INTO THE AREA FROM THE NORTHWEST WEDNESDAY NIGHT. HOWEVER...THE MAJORITY OF THE COLD AIR WITH THIS FRONT SHOULD STAY TO OUR NORTHEAST. FLURRIES COULD OCCUR BEHIND THE FRONT LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY MORNING...BUT CHANCES ARE HIGHER TO OUR NORTH AND EAST. && .OAX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... NE...NONE.
