Temperatures heading toward daybreak were fairly typical for mid December with readings from the teens north to 20s south. Winds were light from the southwest. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy today with mild temperatures as a system approaches the Midwest. Highs should vary from the upper 20s north to 40s south. The system is expected to bring chances for light snow or light freezing rain across the upper Mississippi River Valley by early Wednesday morning, including portions of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois. Temperatures will remain near seasonal normals through midweek with another system affecting the region Thursday morning through Friday morning, mainly from the southeast half of Iowa into Missouri and Illinois. There will be chances for light rain or light snow through this period, and possibly light freezing rain across southern Iowa into the morning commute Thursday. $$ Small
