Highs struggled to reach the low to mid 20s across much of Iowa. The westerly 10 to 15 mph wind made temperatures feel like they were in the single digits to teens throughout the day, making for a bitter reminder that it is December and the area was spoiled with well above normal temperatures recently. Temperatures by early this evening were already a few degrees off daytime highs, ranging from the teens up north to the low 20s across the south. Fortunately, more southwesterly to southerly winds will set in overnight and help keep lows from plummeting into the single digits, remaining in the teens. While that might not sound like much to be joyous about, those southerly winds will also help boost highs Friday into the 30s for most. After a brief set back Saturday with highs in the mid 20s to low 30s, Sunday will easily be the warmest day of the last few and of the near future. Highs will soar into the 40s nearly state wide, with a few low 50s likely in the southwest. On the precipitation front, some nuisance flurries will be possible Friday across a large portion of Iowa, followed by some possible light snowfall accumulations across the northeast Friday night. Otherwise, the next opportunity for precipitation does not look to move through until at least Monday. $$ CURTIS
