..NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR 12/25 SEVERE WEATHER EVENT...

.OVERVIEW...A SURVEY CREW WAS DISPATCHED TO ASSESS DAMAGE FROM
THE STORMS THAT PASSED THROUGH THE AREA ON CHRISTMAS DAY. FOUR AREAS
OF DAMAGE WERE INVESTIGATED. THREE AREAS WERE DETERMINED TO BE THE
RESULT OF TORNADOES AND ONE WAS DETERMINED TO BE STRAIGHT-LINE
WIND DAMAGE.

SURVEY SUMMARY: A WEAK TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN ALONG LA HWY 113 EAST OF
PITKIN IN VERNON PARISH. ONE BARN HAD A FEW SHEETS OF ROOF TIN PULLED
OFF...AND A MOBILE HOME HAD A TREE LAND ON IT...CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE.
OTHERWISE 20-40 PINE TREES WERE SNAPPED ALONG THE PATH.

SURVEY SUMMARY: A STRONG TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN THE WOODS SOUTHWEST
OF TIOGA...EVENTUALLY REACHING LA HWY 1203...WHERE IT RIPPED
ALMOST THE ENTIRE ROOF OFF A BRICK HOME...DESTROYED A CAR
WASH...AND DAMAGED AT LEAST 40 OTHER HOMES. AN INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX
ALONG US HWY 167 SAW 5 18 WHEELER TRAILER FLIPPED OVER...SEVERAL
LARGE OVERHEAD DOORS BLOWN IN...AND LARGE SECTIONS OF METAL ROOFS
PEELED OFF. AT THE NEARBY TIOGA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL...PART OF THE
ROOF WAS REMOVED FROM THE GYM. THERE WAS ONE MINOR INJURY WHEN A
TRAILER ROLLED OVER...BUT THE MAN REFUSED MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR
VERY MINOR BUMPS AND BRUISES.

SURVEY SUMMARY: A STRONG TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN A RESIDENTIAL
NEIGHBORHOOD BETWEEN POLK AND WHITE STREET...BLOWING TREES ON
HOMES AND REMOVING SOME SHINGLES AND OTHER ROOFING MATERIALS
FROM SOME HOMES. WHEN IT REACHED LA HWY 1 AND LEE STREET
INTERSECTION...IT RIPPED THE ROOFS OFF SEVERAL BUSINESSES...
INCLUDING THOSE IN THE WASHINGTON SQUARE COMPLEX. THIS TORNADO
MOVED OVER I-49 AND DISSIPATED BETWEEN LEE AND ST JAMES STREET
WHERE SEVERAL MORE HOMES AND A CHURCH LOST SOME SHINGLES AND
ROOFING MATERIAL.

.VIDOR TEXAS WIND DAMAGE...

A SURVEY TEAM DETERMINED THE DAMAGE AT THE STRIP MALL AND THE
APARTMENT BUILDING ACROSS THE CITY OF VIDOR WAS DUE TO STRAIGHT
LINE WINDS.
