ALTON...LOCATED IN OSBORNE COUNTY.

IN 1889...A COLOSSAL CLOUD BURST INUNDATED EXTREME WEST
CENTRAL WEST VIRGINIA.	ROCKPORT WEST VIRGINIA RECEIVED
THE GULLY WASHER OF A LIFETIME WHEN 19 INCHES OF RAIN
REPORTEDLY RAVAGED THE TOWN IN 2 HOURS AND 10 MINUTES!
CREEKS IN WIRT...WOOD...AND JACKSON COUNTIES DEFINITELY
ROSE TO THE OCCASION...ESPECIALLY TYGART CREEK...WHICH
ROSE 22 FEET IN 1 HOUR! THE HORRIFIC FLOODING OF THE
TYGART...SLATE...TUCKER AND SANDY CREEKS CLAIMED 20 LIVES
AS VILLAGES WERE SWEPT AWAY.
