Highs topped out in the upper 50s to low 60s where there was cloud cover and the mid to upper 60s to the west where clear skies dominated. Clouds continued to slowly clear out eastward this evening, leaving about the western two thirds of the state under clear skies. Temperatures had also cooled a couple of by early to mid evening, leaving the state ranging form the mid 60s in the west to the upper 50s in the east. A boundary slated to begin moving across the state tonight will provide an opportunity for a few showers Friday and will also keep temperatures in the lower 60s for the the northwest half to two thirds of the state. An isolated rumble of thunder or two may be seen across southern Iowa as well. The bigger story will be Saturday with the potential for a few strong to severe storms and heavy rainfall. The main areas of concern will be roughly the southeast half of the state, with the severe threat greatest towards the south. After all of the shower and storm activity moves off, Sunday will be on the cool side with highs only expected in the 50s, but will be short lived as temperatures warm back up into the 60s and low 70s throughout the new work week. $$ CURTIS
