294 AWUS83 KDMX 122234 RWSDMX IAZ004>007-015>017-023>028-033>039-044>050-057>062-070>075-081>086- 092>097-130645- Weather Summary for Iowa National Weather Service Des Moines IA 534 PM CDT Thu Jul 12 2018 Hot and humid conditions once again prevailed over much of the region as highs this afternoon rose into the 90s with heat index values rising over 100 degrees. At 5 PM, Several location across Iowa reported heat index values over 105 degrees with the hottest heat index reported at Marshalltown with a value of 108 degrees. Storms erupted over portions of south central Minnesota into southeast South Dakota and western Nebraska and quickly became severe where large hail and damaging winds were the main threat. Storms are likely to continue over much of south central Minnesota, southeast South Dakota and portions of central to western Nebraska for much of the evening. The front that is causing this thunderstorm activity is forecast to shift south on Friday and cut Iowa in half roughly from north to south. The main concern tomorrow is with heavy rain with a few storms possibly becoming severe at times. Southern Iowa into Missouri is likely to remain hot and humid for much of the day Friday before the front finally clears this area by Saturday. Thunderstorms are likely to continue into Saturday for much of the day before diminishing by the evening or shifting south. Additional thunderstorm chances are forecast Sunday and again by the middle of next week. Much cooler and less humid conditions are forecast by the weekend and throughout the week next week. $$ KLP
