Happy May Day! It is the first of the month again, so it is time to spam the userbase with website stats and news updates. KCCI SchoolNet8 Homepage: http://www.kcci.com/schoolnet8/ Or directly at: http://www.schoolnet8.com SchoolNet8 Notes ================ KCCI has hired Frank Scaglione to help out part time with SchoolNet issues and repairs. You can reach him by the same address as you could previously with Jason, schoolnet8 at yahoo.com . Some of you have already interacted with him as he has been helping out. Please always feel free to email myself or Frank with any needs you may have. One of the items we really need help with is locating any spare equipment or equipment that has yet to be replaced at your site. It is important that we get the old sensors sent back to KCCI for refurbishing. It is also important for timely turn around of parts so that we can keep cycling them back for repair. It is a giant wheel! hehe. Anyway, thanks, as always for your help. April Website Stats =================== The attached PDF contains website stats for April 2009. You may notice that the numbers are down from previous months. The reason for this change is a website modification I made last month to make certain portions of the website 'live'. By doing this, it cut down on the number of page clicks and thus page views reported in this report. If this does not make sense, please let me know. Actually, lets take an example from the report and let us pick on Adair :) Hits: 8,640 Hosts: 624 Click Thrus: 29 - Hits are the number of page views with content on the page specifically for Adair. When you navigate to their page, that is 1 hit. - Hosts are the number of unique Internet Computer Addresses (IPs) that are used to access the webpage. This can somewhat be considered as the number of people viewing information for that site. The number is somewhat inflated due to various reasons, but not terrible. - Click Thrus are the number of times somebody clicked on the sponsor's banner for the site taking them to the Sponsor's website. Hopefully that makes some sense. New features for May ==================== The addition of live components to the website last month didn't produce any major complaints to me, so that is sort of good! I don't have anything new to show this month, but hope to have some more things completed in time for June! Well, that is it for this month. Please let me know if you have any suggestions! Development is driven by your needs. It is time again for me to spam the userbase with the monthly statistics and an announcement of an upcoming important change. Currently, your schoolnet weather PC relays its observations through the internet to a server in Alabama. For various reasons, this server will be going away soon in favour of a locally written server by me! hehe. Suffice it to say that my development time for this month has been consumed by getting this new server up and hopefully working. The complication is that some sites may have an explicit firewall entry allowing the network traffic to the old server, which will need to be updated. For this reason, I will be manually contacting sites to help with this process. So you all may hear from me soon :) Thanks again for all of your help and support of the SchoolNet8 Project. Have a great summer! daryl -- /** * Daryl Herzmann * Assistant Scientist -- Iowa Environmental Mesonet * http://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu */ -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
