Sioux City broke their monthly snowfall total record by 3 inches and Des Moines' total places it second all-time. Waterloo did not break either record as their total was well short of the 34 inches back in December 2000. It has been a brutal winter thus far and the next few weeks look to be bitterly cold, but not as snowy. > NWS Watch/Warning Summary for 31 Dec 2009 Summary +_________ By WFO ____________+ Watches Type US IA | ARX DVN DMX OAX FSD | US Tornado 0 0 | 0 0 0 0 0 | 0 Svr Tstorm 0 0 | 0 0 0 0 0 | 0 Fl Flood 0 0 | 0 0 0 0 0 | N/A ARX = LaCrosse, WI DVN = Davenport, IA DMX = Des Moines, IA OAX = Omaha, NE FSD = Sioux Falls, SD > IEM Cow Report No Warnings Issued -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The quality controlled Iowa COOP data for September has been uploaded to the IEM and the associated climodat reports regenerated as well. Iowa's State Climatologist, Harry Hillaker, passes along these notes for the month:

The month finished with a statewide average temperature of 63.4 degrees or 0.5 degrees above normal with precipitation averaging 1.75 inches or 1.66 inches below normal. This ranks as the 66th coolest and 19th driest September among 137 years of records. September was an exceptionally pleasant month with no major extremes of temperature, very few days with rain, light wind speeds and no severe weather. The statewide monthly temperature range of 56 degrees from a low of 32 to a high of 88 was the second smallest of the historical record in September (54 degree range in 1987 from 36 to 90 degrees). There was an average of only four days with measurable rainfall. Only two days (27th and 28th) brought a statewide average wind speed of greater than 10 mph. Finally, this was the first September since 1976 with no reported severe weather.

The following is the number of new daily records set at COOP sites based on data back to 1951.

It is ready for testing, so find those bugs! If successful, this app will replace the old LSR app.

Features of this application:

  • All AJAX based, no page reloading.
  • Short and stable URLs (bookmarkable).
  • Data grid interfaces to LSRs and Storm Based Warnings issued at the time
  • Printing support of the grids.
  • LSR icons based on the report type.
  • The NEXRAD overlay can be adjusted in time based on the set time limits.

The application needs to be optimized yet, so it will feel a bit "heavy" for slow network connections. Enjoy. > Daily Feature +---------------------------------------------- http://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/onsite/features/cat.php?day=2010-01-27 | Title : Comparing winters | Date : 27 Jan 06:10 AM | Votes : Good: 21 Bad: 8 +---------------------------------------------- While this has been a difficult winter for Iowa, how does it compare with past winters for the amount of winter we experience? Big snowfalls are still possible, especially as we transition to spring (imagine that). > NWS Watch/Warning Summary for 29 Jan 2010 Summary +_________ By WFO ____________+ Watches Type US IA | ARX DVN DMX OAX FSD | US Tornado 2 0 | 0 0 0 0 0 | 0 Svr Tstorm 2 0 | 0 0 0 0 0 | 0 Fl Flood 1 0 | 0 0 0 0 0 | N/A ARX = LaCrosse, WI DVN = Davenport, IA DMX = Des Moines, IA OAX = Omaha, NE FSD = Sioux Falls, SD > IEM Cow Report SVR+TOR Warnings Issued: 4 Verified: 0 [0.0 %] Reduction of Size Versus County Based [73.3 %] Average Perimeter Ratio [38.7 %] Percentage of Warned Area Verified (15km) [0.0 %] Average Storm Based Warning Size [1164 sq km] Probability of Detection(higher is better)[0.00] False Alarm Ratio (lower is better) [1.00] Critical Success Index (higher is better) [0.00] -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
