WMS-T (Web Map Service with Time support) layer from the main NEXRAD
WMS service. The WMS-T service now resides at its own unique URI:

The quality controlled Iowa COOP data for January has been uploaded to the IEM with the climodat reports updated as well. Our State Climatologist, Harry Hillaker, passes along these notes for the month.
The statewide average temperature was 13.0 degrees or 4.8 degrees below normal. This was the coldest January since 1994 and coldest calendar month since December 2000. Precipitation averaged 0.70 inches or 0.25 inches less than normal, this is exactly the same as last January. Snowfall averaged 10.6 inches or 4.4 inches above normal; the fifth January of the past six with about this same amount. Temperatures ranked 26th coldest and precipitation 42nd driest among 137 years of records. Snowfall ranked 22nd greatest among 122 Januarys.
The most notable event of the month was a severe cold wave in mid
January.
Several locations set all-time record minimum temperatures on the
morning of
the 16th (except Cedar Rapids Airport set their record on the 15th).

The newly released US Drought Monitor indicates just a small portion of the state experiencing drought conditions. In general, the northwestern part of our state has missed out on many of the storm events since April. Rain is in the forecast this weekend.

The featured graph is a simple plot of the number of days per year that Ames has observed a high temperature at or above 90 degrees. 2008 only saw a handful of days while two years in the 1930s experienced 60 days (dust bowl). While the forecast for this weekend is for warmer weather, we will have to wait a while yet before maybe seeing 90 degrees again.

A temporary webcamera has been added to the KCRG-TV CityCam network to
support their Farmer
Josh feature. The camera will be fixated on a corn field for the
