A new webcamera network has been added to the IEM. KELO-TV in
Sioux Falls is creating a network of webcameras. The first one is
located at the football stadium at South Dakota State (home of the
Jackrabbits!). Its identifier is "KELO-001".

A new webcamera has been added to the KCCI SchoolNet8 Project. This
one is located at the Twin Cedars school near Bussey. This ID for
this site is "KCCI-030".

The IEM started to collect data from webcams back in 2003.
Identifiers were assigned to the cameras based on the SchoolNet8
site it was closest to. Now with some cameras at sites without
SchoolNets and webcams being added from other networks, we needed
new IDs for everything. So I just probably broke a bunch of stuff,
including my own, but no better time than a Friday to fix it all.
Please let me know of any pages that are not working.
Here is a cross reference of the new IDs versus the old:

The featured plot attempts to show the persistence (or lack thereof) of day to day high temperatures throughout the year. The four lines represent the root mean squared error (RMSE) of the difference between high temps for a date versus the high temp for a date so many days into the future! Confusing, eh? What this plot is showing is persistence of high temperatures in time. The lowest RMSE values are for day2, which makes sense as tomorrow is more likely to be similiar today than the day after tomorrow. The RMSE values increase for day4 and day5, but are similiar in value. During the year, you can see the lowest values in the summer, which is due to the lack of strong cold fronts providing temperature contrasts. The jump in values in September shows the influence of stronger fronts as the seasons change.
