 | Title : Storm Based Warnings summaries

 +----------------------------------------------

The NWS will soon be transitioning to a Storm Based Warning system.
These warnings are polygons in latitude and longitude space instead
of areas defined by counties. Storms don't follow county borders,
so why should the warnings for them? :)

This evening, I have generated an application that presents summaries
of these warnings in a simple chart image!

 - So for a particular UTC date since 1 Jun 2005 and prior to
today, you get a chart like summary of sbw warnings sorted
by either size or WFO. All of the polygons are drawn at the
same map extent and in the same projection.

 - You can click on any of the polygons to get a direct link to
the warning text, radar at product issuance, LSRs reported,
   and SVS updates.

Of course this is all based on the IEM's unofficial archive
and may contain some errors, but no known known errors! hehe

If you see errors or have ideas for improvements, please let me
know. I plan on adding more descriptive statistics on the page
at a future date.

The initial feedback I have gotten on this page has been very
encouraging. I hope folks find many uses for it :)

 | Title : July COOP data uploaded
 | Date : 20 Sep 11:55 AM
 | Author: Daryl Herzmann
 | URL : http://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/climodat/
 +----------------------------------------------

The quality controlled COOP data for July has been uploaded to the
IEM data coffers. The climodat reports have been generated as
well. Note, I did make a bunch of small tweaks to the climodat
reports to fix various spacing issues and to get rid of the "-9.99"
nomenclature to represent missing. It is now "M", which programs like
Excel seem to understand.

New records broken for the month:

 | Title : Increased variability
 | Date : 20 Sep 01:04 AM
 | Votes : Good: 13 Bad: 5
 +----------------------------------------------

The featured plot graphs out climatological daily variability of high and low temperatures based on statewide observations dating back to 1951. Disregarding the day to day noise in the plot, a couple of things stand out. Firstly, temperatures are much less variable in the summer. The primary reason for this is the prevalence of a humid air mass acting to modulate our temperatures. Secondly, the winter season is most variable due to the influence of snow cover on our radiation budget and advection of warm or cold air masses by storm systems. For September, a sharp increase over summer is noticed as each day becomes more variable. The reasons for this increase include decreasing humidity levels and the return of strong cold air surges from Canada.
