This site has a NWS ID of RTMI4 and here is some more information from the DOT: The Tama RWIS is actually not very close to the town of Tama at all; it's at the intersection of Hwy 30 and 21. It's relatively well placed for an RWIS since it's in a rural, open, flat spot well away from the road. It has 2 surface sensors but only one is on at the moment. The other will begin reporting in the near future. The sensor that's reporting (Sensor 0) is located in Hwy 30 Westbound straight out from the tower in aged asphalt and the one that's not up yet is nearly a mile West of the tower on the brige over the Stein Creek (also WB lane, Sensor 1). There's a sub probe under sensor 0. What they are are composites of the 5 minute reflectivity, where each pixel is the max reflectivity observed during that period. You end up with images depicting storm tracks and you can easily see areas that were perhaps missed by storms. The one tricky part is that these images are for the UTC day and not local day. So it is 7 PM to 7 PM. You can find links to these from the Current RADAR page. There is one for the CONUS and one for Iowa. I've also back filled an archive back to when the higher quality composites were being produced (10 May 2007). The contour plot is a density field with the red area representing the 90th percentile (most common). Focusing on that area, we see a clear trend for increasing temperatures as winds switch from the SE to SW. The side histograms show the distribution of the observations with the dark green showing the distribution of winds while the temperature is above 90 degrees. Again, the SSW and SW winds are the most frequent when temperatures are the warmest. So what is the moral of the story? This plot clearly illustrates the importance of the dew point temperature as a floor to overnight low temperatures. Keep in mind that the dew point is not a function of dry air temperature. The upward pointing arrow shows how on Monday morning, the air temperature only was able to cool to a few degrees above the dew point near 70. Since then, a front passed with much drier air (dew points dropped ~15 degrees) and you can see what temperatures have done since yesterday evening. In general, the Western half of Iowa missed out on the heavy rains except a few counties east of Sioux City that received between 2 to 3 inches. Of course, any little bit of rain is better than none, but it appears Sioux County in far NW Iowa missed out completely.
