Last Friday, I featured a wind rose plot and got very positive
feedback about it. I have now generated a number of wind rose
plots for sites in Iowa and surrounding states. You can access
these plots from the "IEM Sites" section.
Feedback is always welcome. Currently, there is a plot for
yearly and monthly climatologies. Others can be added as requests
are made. Plots for sites outside of the state will keep appearing
over the weekend as the script keeps running :)
Of the plots I have seen thus far, it is interesting to see the
dominance of the southerly direction. If folks know of other
institutions that have generated plots like these, it would be
good to compare them.
Its also neat to look at sites like Sioux City and Clinton, who
are along river bottoms.

Iowa RWIS data will be unavailable between noon and 4 PM this
Saturday (27 Jan). The DOT is doing some scheduled
maintenance on their FTP server.

A new station has been added to the KIMT network. This one is
Northwood at Northwood-Kensett Junior High School. There are now
12 sites in the KIMT network.

Computer weather models have been predicting a very cold weekend for a good portion of the United States. The coldest air will pass just to our east with temperatures falling below -20 degrees (white color) on Sunday and Monday. This is part of a pattern weather shift with the establishment of cold air over the east coast. Iowa will remain on the western edge of the extremely cold air.
