The featured map is of peak wind gusts so far this Friday.  The ice storm from earlier this week has covered a number of observations sites with a paralyzing jacket of ice.  This is preventing many sites in Southern Iowa from reporting wind speed and direction as the sensor is not free to move in response to the wind.  The ice may be sticking around for a while as the forecast calls for cold temperatures and some chances of light snow.
