Tom Bailey 06/06/2006 07:46 PM Hi, Here is a picture I took this afternoon. I was north of Winterset and had been watching the low clouds to the southeast. Then I noticed that one cloud had sent a chimney like column of wispy material straight up. Within minutes, it was three times higher than the rest of the clouds. Then the cloud started churning and boiling higher and higher with a little bit of wispy cloud always present around the top. Finally, it formed into the classic anvil shape of a good old Iowa thunderstorm. I had to pull over and take this picture of it over the North River Valley. Just as I took the picture, the radio announced that there was a tornado on the ground east of Sigourney. This is a view of that tornado producing cell from central Iowa looking to the southeast.
